Early life and junior hockey

Newhook was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He played junior hockey with the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), where he established himself as a high-scoring player before joining Boston College.

College career

Newhook played as a forward at Boston College, where he was recognized as one of the top freshmen in college hockey. His performances at the collegiate level helped him transition to the professional ranks.

Professional career

Newhook was selected 16th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He signed his entry-level contract with Colorado in 2021 and made his NHL debut with the Avalanche later that year. He won the Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2022. On June 27, 2023, Newhook was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, and in July 2023 he signed a four-year contract with the team. He has remained with Montreal since then.

International play

Newhook represented Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, where Canada won the silver medal. His international experience added to his profile as a young Canadian centre.
