2011 Norway attacks

On 22 July 2011, Breivik detonated a bomb in Oslo and later opened fire at a youth camp on Utøya. The attacks were among the deadliest in modern Norwegian history.

Trial and conviction

Breivik was charged with terrorism and murder, and a Norwegian court found him sane and criminally responsible in 2012. He received a 21-year sentence of preventive detention, which can be extended if he is considered a continuing danger.
