He is best known for elite passing, set pieces, and controlling matches from deep midfield.

Early life and club beginnings

Pirlo was born in Flero, in the province of Brescia, and came through Brescia’s system before making his senior debut in the 1990s. He also had a spell at Inter Milan early in his career.

AC Milan and Juventus years

Pirlo became a world-class midfielder at AC Milan, where he won two Serie A titles, two UEFA Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup, a Coppa Italia, and a Supercoppa Italiana. He then moved to Juventus in 2011 and added four straight Serie A titles to his record, along with domestic cup honours.

International career

Pirlo was part of Italy’s national team and won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He also played a prominent role at UEFA Euro 2012, helping Italy reach the final.

Later career and retirement

Pirlo joined New York City FC in 2015 and ended his playing career in 2017. He later transitioned into coaching, including a spell as Juventus head coach in 2020–21 and appointments at Fatih Karagümrük and Sampdoria.
