Ange Postecoglou is a Greek-born Australian football manager and former player.

He has managed clubs and national teams in Australia, Japan, Scotland, England and Saudi Arabia, and is known for winning major honours with South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar, the Australia national team, Yokohama F. Marinos, Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur.

Early life and playing career

Postecoglou was born in Athens and emigrated to Australia with his family when he was young. He played as a defender, spending much of his playing career with South Melbourne and appearing for the Australia national team.

Managerial career

He moved into coaching at South Melbourne before taking roles with Australia’s youth sides, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and the senior national team. He later coached in Japan, Scotland and England, and as of 2026 is reported as manager of Al-Nassr.

Major honours

Postecoglou has won league titles in Australia, Japan and Scotland, as well as the AFC Asian Cup with Australia. He also led Tottenham Hotspur to the UEFA Europa League title in 2025.

Style and reputation

He is widely associated with an attacking, high-tempo style of play often referred to as ‘Angeball’. His career has drawn attention for both his trophy record and his success across several footballing cultures.
