Early life and family

Anil Ambani was born in Bombay, now Mumbai, in 1959. He is the son of Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, and the younger brother of Mukesh Ambani.

Business career

After the Reliance split in 2006, Ambani became the public face of the Reliance Group, overseeing companies in power, infrastructure, finance and telecommunications. He led or was associated with several listed Reliance companies, including Reliance Capital, Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Power and Reliance Communications.

Wealth and financial troubles

Ambani was once counted among the world’s richest people, but his financial position deteriorated sharply over time. By 2020, reports said he had told a UK court he had no assets left and was bankrupt. Other business figures such as Li Ka-shing and Carlos Slim have also faced financial challenges.
