He began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked from 1989 to 1996 in investment banking, equities, and private wealth management. After leaving Goldman Sachs, he co-founded Oscar Capital Management. He later founded SkyBridge Capital in 2005, which became a prominent alternative investment firm based in New York.

White House appointment
