Early life and education

Anthony Weiner was born in New York City in 1964. He attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and began working in politics as an aide before winning elected office.

Political career

Weiner served on the New York City Council before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998. He became known as a prominent New York Democrat and served in Congress until 2011.

Scandals and resignation

Weiner resigned from Congress after admitting to sending sexually explicit messages and images. Later revelations involving additional sexting behaviour contributed to the collapse of his 2013 mayoral campaign and led to a federal criminal case.

Conviction and imprisonment

In 2017, Weiner pleaded guilty in federal court to transferring obscene material to a minor. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison and later became a registered sex offender.
