Early life and college career

Manning was born in Drew, Mississippi, and attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). At Ole Miss, he became one of the school’s best-known quarterbacks and earned major national honours in 1969, including SEC Player of the Year and the Walter Camp Memorial Trophy.

Professional career

The New Orleans Saints drafted Manning second overall in the 1971 NFL draft, and he became the face of the franchise for much of the 1970s and early 1980s. He later finished his playing career with brief stops at the Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings.
