Premise

The series is an anthology in which the Midnight Society meets at a hidden location, usually in the woods, to share ghost stories and other supernatural tales. The framing device shifts from the group’s gathering to the story being told.

Original broadcast

The original series premiered on Nickelodeon’s SNICK block in 1992 and ended in 1996. It also aired in Canada, including on Family Channel and later YTV.

Revivals and franchise

The title was revived in 1999–2000 with new stories and again in 2019–2022 as a new series continuing the Midnight Society concept. These later versions expanded the franchise beyond the 1990s original.

The series was created by D. J. MacHale and Ned Kandel and associated with Canadian production company CINAR. Its production history is strongly tied to Canadian television, especially Montreal, Quebec.
