Premise

Assassination Classroom is set at Kunugigaoka Junior High School, where students in Class 3-E are given the mission of killing their teacher before graduation. The teacher, Koro-sensei, is an octopus-like creature with extraordinary speed and abilities. He has already destroyed much of the Moon and threatens to destroy Earth.

Manga publication

The series was written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui and serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from July 2012 to March 2016. It was published in 21 collected tankōbon volumes.

Anime adaptation

The anime adaptation was produced by Lerche and aired in two seasons from January 2015 to June 2016. It spans 47 episodes and follows the manga's main storyline to its conclusion.

Adaptations and reception

The franchise also includes live-action film adaptations released in 2015 and 2016. The manga became a major commercial success, with circulation reported above 27 million copies by 2023.
