Born in North York, Ontario, he became one of Canada’s most capped international players and had a long club career in Europe, including spells with FC Copenhagen, PSV Eindhoven, and Beşiktaş. He retired from professional football in 2023.

Early life and youth career

Hutchinson was born in North York and grew up in Brampton, Ontario. He began playing soccer at a young age with Brampton YSC and attended Notre Dame Secondary School in Brampton.

Club career

His professional career included clubs in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Turkey. He played for Östers IF, Helsingborgs IF, FC Copenhagen, PSV Eindhoven, and Beşiktaş, where he spent roughly a decade before retiring in 2023.

International career with Canada

Hutchinson represented Canada across more than 20 years, from 2002 to 2023. He became Canada’s most-capped men’s player and appeared at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, while also taking part in youth World Cup tournaments earlier in his career.

Honours and recognition

He was a six-time Canada Soccer Player of the Year and received the Canada Soccer President’s Award in 2023. His European club career also included individual recognition in Denmark and multiple domestic titles with Beşiktaş.
