Bebe Buell was born Beverle Lorence Buell in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1953. She began modelling as a teenager and signed with the Eileen Ford agency, moving to New York in 1972. She became a nationally visible model and was selected as Playboy's November 1974 Playmate of the Month.
