Premise

Bleach follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who can see spirits and becomes a substitute Soul Reaper after receiving powers from Rukia Kuchiki. He fights Hollow spirits and becomes involved in conflicts involving the Soul Society and other supernatural forces.

Publication and creation

The manga was written and illustrated by Tite Kubo and began serialization in 2001. Its main story concluded in 2016 after a 15-year publication run.

Anime adaptation

The original anime adaptation aired 366 episodes. A continuation, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, later adapted the manga’s final story arc.

Main characters

Ichigo Kurosaki is the central protagonist and the series’ main point-of-view character. Other major early figures include Rukia Kuchiki, who transfers powers to Ichigo and helps introduce him to the world of Soul Reapers.
