Early life and music career

Bob Geldof was born in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland, in 1951 and became known as the frontman of the Boomtown Rats. The band gained prominence during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Band Aid and Live Aid

In 1984, Geldof founded Band Aid and helped write and organise the single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" to support famine relief in Ethiopia. He then co-organized Live Aid in 1985, which featured major concerts in London and Philadelphia.

Activism and public life

Geldof became a prominent public campaigner on global poverty and debt relief, especially in relation to Africa. His activism has made him one of the best-known musician-activists of his era.

Honours and recognition

Geldof was awarded an honorary knighthood in 1986 for his humanitarian work. He has also received recognition for his contributions to music and charity work.
