Early life and youth career

Bojan Krkić was born in Linyola, Catalonia, and joined FC Barcelona’s La Masia academy in 1999. He developed into one of the club’s most highly regarded youth players and set several scoring records. Barcelona’s player profile lists him as the club’s all-time leading scorer in the youth system with 423 goals.

Barcelona first team

Krkić made his senior debut for Barcelona in 2006 at age 17 years and 19 days, breaking the record previously held by Lionel Messi. In his debut season, he scored 12 goals in 48 matches. He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal on 1 April 2008 against Schalke 04, becoming the first player born in the 1990s to score in the competition.

Career after Barcelona

After leaving Barcelona, Krkić played for several clubs: Roma, Milan, Ajax, Stoke City, Mainz, Alavés, Montreal Impact, and Vissel Kobe. His time with Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer gave him a brief Canadian connection.

Retirement

Krkić announced his retirement in March 2023 at age 32. According to German-language reporting, he retired on 23 March 2023 for professional and personal reasons.
