Carmen Campagne

Carmen Campagne was a Canadian singer, songwriter, composer, and children's entertainer from Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan.

Carmen Campagne (September 8, 1959 – July 4, 2018) was a Canadian singer, songwriter, composer, and children's entertainer from Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan. She became widely known for French-language children's music and educational songs, and was a member of the Order of Canada. Her songs were used in classrooms and familiar to audiences in Quebec, Saskatchewan, and other parts of Canada.

Early life and education

Carmen Campagne was born in Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan, in 1959. She grew up in a musical family and began her career with the family folk group Folle Avoine. She later trained and worked as a teacher.

Music career

Campagne became known for children's songs in French and bilingual recordings, especially from the late 1980s onward. Her work included educational material and recordings that were widely used with young audiences. She recorded French-language songs for children and was known for helping young children learn French through music.

Recognition and awards

Campagne won a Juno Award in 1989 for Best Children’s Album for Lullaby Berceuse, shared with Connie Kaldor. She also received four Félix Awards and a Parents' Choice Award. She was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2014.

Death and legacy

Campagne died of cancer on July 4, 2018, at age 58. She is remembered as one of the best-known French-language children's entertainers in Canada.
