Early life

David Jon Gilmour was born in Cambridge, England, on 6 March 1946, the son of Douglas Gilmour and Sylvia Gilmour.

Pink Floyd

Gilmour became internationally known as a member of Pink Floyd, serving as guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He joined the band in 1968 after the departure of Syd Barrett. Pink Floyd’s official site notes that Gilmour also worked with the band on the 2022 single "Hey Hey Rise Up".

Solo career

Gilmour has released five solo studio albums, beginning with *David Gilmour* in 1978 and including *About Face*, *On an Island*, *Rattle That Lock*, and most recently *Luck and Strange* (2024). He is also a songwriter and producer.
