Early life

Pantera

Abbott became famous as a founding member of Pantera, formed with his brother Vinnie Paul in the early 1980s. The band became one of the most prominent heavy metal acts of the 1990s, with Abbott performing under the stage name Diamond Darrell.

Damageplan and final years

After Pantera ended, Abbott formed or joined Damageplan and continued recording and touring. His career ended when he was fatally shot during a Damageplan performance in Columbus, Ohio, on December 8, 2004.
