Dusty Rhodes was the ring name of Virgil Riley Runnels Jr.

Dusty Rhodes was the ring name of Virgil Riley Runnels Jr. (1945–2015), an American professional wrestler, booker, trainer, and promoter. Known as "The American Dream," he became one of wrestling’s most popular figures through work in the NWA, WWF/WWE, and WCW, and later helped train talent behind the scenes.

Professional wrestling career

Rhodes debuted in professional wrestling in 1967. He became a major attraction in the 1970s and 1980s, especially in the National Wrestling Alliance, where he was known for his charisma and connection with fans. He later wrestled for WWF/WWE and WCW, working as both a performer and, at times, a creative figure.

Championships and recognition

Rhodes won major championships during his career, including the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on three occasions. He was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 and is recognized by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Behind-the-scenes work

After reducing his in-ring schedule, Rhodes worked in creative and training roles in WWE. He was associated with NXT development, where he helped train younger wrestlers.
