Early life and career

Éric Caire was born in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, on May 21, 1965. Before entering provincial politics, he worked as an entrepreneur in information technology and as a teacher. Public biographies also describe him as a former programmer-analyst and computer enthusiast.

Political career

Caire was first elected to the National Assembly of Quebec for La Peltrie in the 2007 Quebec general election under the Action démocratique du Québec (ADQ) banner. After the ADQ dissolved, he sat as an Independent from 2009 to 2011, then joined the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) in 2011 and has continued to represent the riding.

Ministerial roles

In the Quebec government, Caire served in several digital and administrative portfolios. These included minister delegate for government digital transformation and later minister of cybersecurity and digital technology. He also held responsibilities for access to information and personal information protection.

Later developments

Caire resigned as minister in February 2025 amid controversy over the SAAQclic project, while remaining a member of the National Assembly. In March 2026, he announced that he would not run again in the next Quebec election.
