Early life and education

McFadden was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and studied theatre arts at Brandeis University. She continued her training in Paris with the renowned theatre pedagogue Jacques Lecoq, which influenced her later work in movement and choreography.

Acting career

Her breakthrough role came in 1987 when she was cast as Dr. Beverly Crusher on *Star Trek: The Next Generation*. McFadden became closely associated with the character and later reprised the role in *Star Trek* films and the series *Star Trek: Picard* (2020–2023). Other screen credits include the fantasy film *Labyrinth* (1986) and the submarine thriller *The Hunt for Red October* (1990).
