George Jung

Jung became a major figure in the American cocaine market, especially in the 1970s and early 1980s. He worked with Carlos Lehder and the Medellín Cartel to transport cocaine into the United States. He was known by the nicknames Boston George and El Americano.

Arrest, conviction, and imprisonment

Jung was sentenced in 1994 to 60 years in prison on conspiracy charges. He was released in 2014 after serving roughly two decades.

Public image and portrayal

Jung became a well-known criminal figure in popular culture after his story inspired the 2001 film *Blow*. The film introduced him to a wider audience through Johnny Depp’s portrayal.
