George Soros was born György Schwartz in Budapest, Hungary, on August 12, 1930. He later left Hungary, studied in London, and eventually moved to the United States.

Soros became a highly successful investor and founded Soros Fund Management. He is best known for his profitable short sale of pounds sterling during the 1992 UK currency crisis, a trade that earned him the nickname 'the man who broke the Bank of England'.

Philanthropy
