He is best known as a co-anchor of ABC News' "Good Morning America" and as host of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos." Before entering journalism, he served as a senior aide in the Clinton administration.

Early life and education

Stephanopoulos was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, and studied at Columbia University before attending Balliol College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. His academic background included theology at Oxford and political science at Columbia.

Political career

Before becoming a journalist, he worked in Democratic politics and rose to prominence as a communications director for Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. He later served in the White House as communications director and as senior advisor for policy and strategy.

Broadcast journalism career

Stephanopoulos joined ABC News in 1997 as an analyst for "This Week." He became chief Washington correspondent for ABC News from 2005 to 2009. He has co-anchored "Good Morning America" since 2009. He hosted "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" from 2002 to 2010 and again from 2012 onward.
