Characteristics

The German Shepherd is a medium to large-sized dog with an athletic and muscular body. It has a double coat, most commonly black and tan, though other colour variations exist. The ears are erect, and size typically ranges from 55 to 65 cm at the shoulder, with weight between 22 to 40 kg.

Uses

The breed is known for its versatility and learning abilities. It is employed in various working roles, including police, military, rescue, assistance, and as guide dogs.

Health and Longevity

Sources indicate an average life expectancy of about 9 to 13 years, with variations depending on lineage and individual. Like many large breeds, the German Shepherd is prone to certain hereditary diseases.
