In April 2026, it was announced that he will join McLaren as chief racing officer after his Red Bull contract ends in 2027.

Early life and education

Gianpiero Lambiase was born on 14 October 1980 in Bedford, England, to Italian parents. One source says he studied mechanical engineering at University College London before entering Formula 1.

Formula 1 career

Lambiase started in Formula 1 with Jordan in 2005 as a data engineer and later worked through the team's later identities, including Midland, Spyker and Force India. He joined Red Bull Racing in 2015 and worked with Daniil Kvyat before becoming Max Verstappen's race engineer in 2016.

Role at Red Bull Racing

Lambiase became closely identified with Verstappen's radio communications and race management during Red Bull's championship years. Red Bull's team page lists him as head of race engineering.

Move to McLaren

On 9 April 2026, reports and team announcements said Lambiase would leave Red Bull when his contract expires at the end of 2027 and join McLaren no later than 2028 as chief racing officer. The role was described as a senior management position reporting to Team Principal Andrea Stella.
