Early life

Grant Fuhr was born in Spruce Grove, Alberta, and was raised in the Edmonton area. He was adopted as a baby and came from a biracial family.

NHL career

Fuhr was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, 8th overall in the first round. He spent 10 seasons with the Oilers and became a key part of the team's championship years, winning five Stanley Cups. He later played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and Calgary Flames before retiring in 2000. His career totals included 868 NHL games and 403 wins.

Achievements and records

Fuhr won five Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. He was the first Black player to win the Stanley Cup and the first Black player inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Later career

After his playing career, Fuhr worked as a goaltending coach, including stints with the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes. He remained involved in hockey in coaching and related roles after retirement.
