Early life and playing career
Flick was born in Heidelberg on 24 February 1965. He played professionally for clubs including SV Sandhausen, Bayern Munich and 1. FC Köln before moving into coaching.
Early coaching career
He began coaching as a player-manager at Victoria Bammental in the lower divisions. He later coached TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and helped the club earn promotion.
Germany national team and DFB roles
From 2006 to 2014, Flick was assistant coach to Joachim Löw and was part of the staff that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He served as sporting director of the German Football Association (DFB) from 2014 to 2017. He became head coach of Germany in 2021 and was dismissed in 2023.
Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona
Flick became Bayern Munich head coach in 2019 and led the club to six trophies in 2020, including the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and German Super Cup. He joined FC Barcelona in 2024 on a contract running to 30 June 2026 and won domestic honours in his first season.
