Early life and education

Hayao Miyazaki was born in Tokyo in 1941 and later studied political science and economics at Gakushuin University. After graduating in 1963, he entered the animation industry by joining Toei Animation.

Miyazaki became one of Japan’s most influential animation directors through theatrical features that blended fantasy, realism, and social themes. His films include Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, The Wind Rises, and The Boy and the Heron.
