Early life

Jacques Godin was born in Montreal, Quebec, on 14 September 1930. He grew up in the Saint-Henri neighbourhood of Montreal.

Career

Godin began his career in Quebec entertainment through radio work, stage performances, and many television roles beginning in the 1950s. He also appeared in numerous films and was associated with major Quebec dramatic productions. His work across radio, theatre, television, and cinema spanned several decades.

Notable roles and recognition

He is especially remembered for his roles in *Des souris et des hommes*, *O.K. Laliberté*, and *Being at Home with Claude*. He won the Canadian Film Award for Best Actor in 1973 for *O.K. Laliberté*. He was also nominated for Best Actor at the 1992 Genie Awards for *Being at Home with Claude*.

Honours and death

In June 2017, Godin was made a knight of the Ordre national du Québec. He died of heart failure at Hôpital de Verdun in Montreal on 26 October 2020, at the age of 90.
