Early life and career

Jeff Lynne was born in Birmingham in 1947 and began performing in local bands before joining The Idle Race and The Move. These early experiences helped establish his reputation as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter.

Electric Light Orchestra

Lynne co-founded ELO in 1970 and became the band’s main creative force. He wrote most of the group’s songs from 1972 onward and helped define its blend of rock and orchestral arrangements.

Production work and collaborations

Beyond ELO, Lynne built a major reputation as a record producer. He worked with artists such as George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and Brian Wilson, and was part of the Traveling Wilburys.

Later career

Lynne continued to record and perform under the ELO name in later years. He also released solo work and remained active as a songwriter and producer.
