Early life and college career

Namath was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and played college football at the University of Alabama. He helped Alabama win the 1964 national championship and earned first-team All-SEC honors.

Professional football career

Namath joined the New York Jets and became one of the most visible quarterbacks of the AFL and NFL. His career included strong passing totals, a brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams, and recognition as one of the era’s top passers. He played 13 professional seasons, mainly with the New York Jets, and was the first quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in a 14-game season, with 4,007 yards in 1967.
