Joey Jordison was an American musician, songwriter, and producer best known as the original drummer and co-founder of Slipknot.

He died in 2021 at age 46; his family said he died peacefully in his sleep, and he had previously said he left Slipknot after developing transverse myelitis.

Early life and career

Joey Jordison was born Nathan Jonas Jordison on April 26, 1975, in Des Moines, Iowa. He became known as a drummer and multi-instrumentalist in the heavy metal scene.

Slipknot

Jordison was a founding member and original drummer of Slipknot, designated #1 in the band. He performed with the band from its formation in 1995 until his departure in December 2013. He became one of the band's most recognizable members.

Other bands and projects

Outside Slipknot, Jordison played guitar in the horror punk band Murderdolls. He co-founded Scar the Martyr in 2013 and later played with Sinsaenum. He also was associated with Vimic. These projects showed his range beyond drumming.

Death and health

Jordison died on July 26, 2021, at age 46. His family said he died peacefully in his sleep. Earlier, in 2016, Jordison said he had been diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a rare neurological condition that affected his ability to play drums and contributed to his exit from Slipknot.
