Early life

Johnny McDaid was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, on 24 July 1976. He later moved to London as a teenager and began developing his songwriting skills through busking and performing covers before writing his own material.

Music career

McDaid first led the band Vega4 and later became associated with Snow Patrol. He has contributed as a singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer, and has worked with a wide range of pop and rock artists. He has been active in music since 1994.

Songwriting collaborations

He is known for co-writing songs with major artists, including Ed Sheeran. His songwriting credits also include collaborations with performers such as Pink, Robbie Williams and Westlife.

Personal life

McDaid was publicly known for a long-term relationship with actress Courteney Cox, beginning in 2013. Reports in 2026 stated that the pair had split after more than a decade together.
