Early life and education

Justine Bateman was born in Rye, New York, on February 19, 1966, as Justine Tanya Bateman. She later lived in California and studied computer science and digital media management at UCLA.

Acting career

Bateman began acting in the early 1980s and gained wide recognition as Mallory Keaton on *Family Ties*, which ran from 1982 to 1989. She received two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination for her acting work. She later appeared in television series including *Men Behaving Badly*, *Desperate Housewives*, and *Californication*.

Writing and directing

After her acting career was established, Bateman moved into writing and directing. She made her feature directorial debut with *Violet*, which premiered at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival.
