Keith Matthew Tkachuk is an American former professional ice hockey left winger who played 18 NHL seasons for the Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes, St. Louis Blues, and Atlanta Thrashers. He scored 538 regular-season goals and was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011. Known as a power forward, he also represented the United States at four Olympic Games.

Early life and amateur career

Tkachuk was born in Melrose, Massachusetts. He played college hockey at Boston University in the 1990–91 season before entering the NHL.

NHL career

Tkachuk was selected 19th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. Over 18 seasons, he played for the Jets, Phoenix Coyotes, St. Louis Blues, and Atlanta Thrashers. He scored 538 goals and 1,065 points in 1,201 regular-season games. In the 1996–97 season, he led the NHL in goals with 52, becoming the first American-born player to do so. He was known as a physical, high-scoring power forward.

International play

Tkachuk represented the United States at four Olympic Games: 1992, 1998, 2002, and 2006. He won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2002 Winter Olympics. He also helped the United States win the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

Legacy and honours

Tkachuk scored over 500 career goals and is recognized as one of the leading American-born scorers of his era. He was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011. He is the father of NHL players Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk.
