Ford and Shelby years

Miles became a key development and test driver for Carroll Shelby and Ford, contributing to the Ford GT40 program. His work was central to Ford’s successful 1966 Le Mans campaign. He won major endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Death

Miles died on 17 August 1966 at Riverside International Raceway while testing a Ford J-car prototype. Reports describe the car losing control, crashing, and catching fire, with Miles killed in the accident.

Legacy

Miles is remembered as one of the important figures in Ford’s 1960s endurance racing program and was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. His story gained wider public attention through the film *Ford v Ferrari*.
