Born in 1970 in Montreal and raised in Beaconsfield, Quebec, he played college hockey before building a long career as an NHL player agent. He has represented several prominent NHL players and became the Canadiens’ 18th general manager.

Early life and playing career

Kent Hughes was born in Montreal and grew up in Beaconsfield, Quebec. He played junior and college hockey, including four seasons at Middlebury College from 1988 to 1992, before moving into hockey-related legal and management work.

Career as a player agent

After earning a law degree from Boston College in 1996, Hughes became an NHL player agent. He worked with numerous players, including Patrice Bergeron, Kris Letang, Anthony Beauvillier and Darnell Nurse, and later joined Quartexx Management, where he built a reputation in player representation.

Montreal Canadiens general manager

Hughes was hired as the Canadiens' general manager on January 18, 2022. He became the 18th person to hold the role in franchise history.
