Premise

The series is set in a distant future on an ocean world where gemstone-like beings called the Lustrous live and struggle against the Lunarians, a celestial group that attacks them to seize their bodies.

Manga

Haruko Ichikawa wrote and illustrated the manga, which ran in *Monthly Afternoon* for more than a decade and ended with 13 collected volumes.

Anime adaptation

Orange produced the television anime adaptation, which premiered in 2017 and ran for 12 episodes.

Main character

Phosphophyllite, usually called Phos, is presented as the youngest and most fragile of the Lustrous and is initially given the task of preparing a natural history encyclopedia.
