He is currently the head football coach at LSU, a role he took on in November 2025 after six seasons at Ole Miss. He is known for his offensive coaching background and for becoming one of the youngest head coaches in both the NFL and major-college football.

Early life and playing career

Lane Kiffin was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1975 and grew up around football as the son of coach Monte Kiffin. He played quarterback at Fresno State before moving into coaching.

Coaching career

Kiffin began coaching in the college and NFL ranks in the late 1990s and later held head-coaching jobs with the Raiders, Tennessee, USC, Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss, and LSU. His career includes both rebuilding roles and high-profile Power Conference appointments. He was the youngest head coach in modern NFL history when hired by the Raiders and the youngest head coach of a power-conference college team when hired by Tennessee and USC. He also served as offensive coordinator at Alabama from 2014 to 2016.

Ole Miss tenure

Kiffin coached Ole Miss from 2020 to 2025 and led the program to six consecutive bowl appearances and four 10-win seasons. His final Ole Miss season in 2025 ended with an 11–1 record before his departure to LSU.

LSU appointment

LSU named Kiffin its head coach on November 30, 2025. He succeeded at Ole Miss after six seasons and arrived at LSU with a reputation as one of college football's prominent offensive strategists.
