Born in London in 1965, he won Olympic gold for Canada in 1988 and later became one of boxing’s most accomplished heavyweights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2009.

Early life and amateur career

Lennox Lewis was born in London, England on September 2, 1965, and moved to Canada as a child. He became a standout amateur boxer representing Canada, culminating in a gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the super heavyweight division.

Professional boxing career

Lewis turned professional in 1989 and became a three-time heavyweight world champion. His career included wins over several major heavyweights and two defeats, both in title fights: to Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman. He is the last boxer to hold the undisputed heavyweight championship in the four-belt era. His final professional bout was a victory over Vitali Klitschko in 2004, after which he retired.

Retirement and post-boxing work

Lewis retired from professional boxing in 2004 following his defeat of Vitali Klitschko. After retirement, he worked as a boxing analyst and remained active in media and public appearances.

Honours and legacy

Lewis is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of the modern era. He was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2009.
