Liz Carr was born Elizabeth Anne Carr on 21 April 1972 in Bebington, Cheshire, England. She studied law at the University of Nottingham before beginning a career in performance and disability rights work.

Carr is best known for portraying Clarissa Mullery in the BBC series *Silent Witness*, which she played from 2013 to 2020. She has also appeared in theatre productions and other television roles, including *The Normal Heart* and later screen projects. She won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in *The Normal Heart*.
