Martin St.

Martin St. Louis is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger and current coach, best known for his NHL career with the Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, and New York Rangers. He won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004 and later became head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.

Early life and amateur career

Martin St. Louis was born in Laval, Quebec, and played college hockey at the University of Vermont. He became one of the program’s standout players and later entered professional hockey without being drafted.

NHL playing career

St. Louis began his NHL career with the Calgary Flames in 1998 before becoming most closely identified with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He later played for the New York Rangers and retired in 2015.

Awards and achievements

He was named the NHL’s most valuable player in 2003–04, led the league in scoring twice, and won the Lady Byng Trophy three times. He also helped Canada win gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.

Coaching career

After retiring as a player, St. Louis moved into coaching. He became head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, extending his influence in professional hockey beyond his playing career.
