Baer fought professionally from 1929 to 1941 and built a reputation as a powerful puncher. He became world heavyweight champion after stopping Primo Carnera on June 14, 1934, and later lost the title to James J. Braddock on June 13, 1935. Over the course of his career, he had 84 professional fights, winning 71 with 53 knockouts.

Style and legacy

Baer was known for his knockout ability and theatrical public image. He remains a notable figure in heavyweight boxing history and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995.

Later life

After his boxing career, Baer worked in other public roles, including film-related appearances. He died in Hollywood, California, in 1959 at age 50.
