Maximiliano Araújo

Maximiliano Araújo is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays for Sporting CP and the Uruguay national team.

Maximiliano Javier Araújo Vilches (born 15 February 2000) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays for Sporting CP and the Uruguay national team. He is primarily used as a left winger or left-back and began his senior career with Montevideo Wanderers before later playing in Mexico and Portugal.

Early life and youth career

Araújo was born in Montevideo and came through the youth system of Montevideo Wanderers. His development there led to his senior debut for the club in 2018.

Club career

Araújo made his professional debut on 11 March 2018 in a 2–1 league win against Montevideo City Torque. He signed for Puebla in Mexico at the end of December 2019. He later played for Deportivo Toluca. On 27 August 2024, he joined Sporting CP on a five-year contract. He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal on 5 November 2024 against Manchester City in a 4–1 win. UEFA lists him as a midfielder for Sporting CP.

International career

Araújo has represented Uruguay internationally. Published player profiles list him as a member of the Uruguay national team.
