Early life and college career

Michael Irvin was born on March 5, 1966, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He attended the University of Miami, where he became a standout wide receiver for the Hurricanes. He was part of Miami’s 1987 national championship team.

NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys selected Irvin in the first round (11th overall) of the 1988 NFL Draft. He spent his entire professional career with the franchise from 1988 to 1999. He became one of the leading receivers of the 1990s and helped Dallas win three Super Bowls. Irvin finished his career with 750 receptions, 11,904 receiving yards, and 65 receiving touchdowns.

Injury and retirement

Irvin's playing career ended in 1999 after he suffered a cervical spine fracture in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury forced him to retire from professional football.
