Early life and cricket career

Sidhu was born in Patiala, Punjab, on 20 October 1963. He went on to become an Indian international cricketer. BBC describes him as one of India's most successful Test cricketers, and he retired from cricket in 1999.

Media career

After retiring from cricket, Sidhu worked as a television commentator and personality. He also appeared in films and other entertainment projects.

Political career

Sidhu entered politics with the Bharatiya Janata Party, winning the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in 2004. He later left the BJP, joined the Indian National Congress, and became a senior figure in Punjab politics. He has also served as a minister in the Punjab government.

Legal case

Sidhu was involved in a long-running road rage case from 1988. In 2022, India’s Supreme Court sentenced him to one year in prison in connection with the case.
