Paramount Network (Canada) was the Canadian carriage of the American cable channel Paramount Network, then known by earlier names including The Nashville Network and Spike TV.

The Canadian feed was approved for carriage by the CRTC in April 1984 and was discontinued across all Canadian providers on January 1, 2024. It is distinct from Paramount+ and from the international Paramount Network brand used in other countries.

History

Paramount Network’s Canadian presence began as carriage of the U.S. channel The Nashville Network after CRTC approval in April 1984. Over time the channel changed names in the United States, and the Canadian feed remained available through various providers until its final discontinuation in 2024.

Canadian distribution

In Canada, the channel was carried by cable and satellite providers as a foreign specialty service. Major Canadian providers began removing the channel in 2022, starting with Rogers Communications, followed by Shaw Cable, Shaw Direct, and Eastlink in 2023. The Canadian feed was discontinued on all remaining providers on January 1, 2024.

Relationship to Paramount+

Paramount Network and Paramount+ are separate services: one is a television channel brand, and the other is a streaming service. Paramount+ continues to operate in Canada through Paramount’s Canadian entities, while the linear channel feed ended in Canada.

International branding

Paramount Network is also used as an international brand in other territories, but its Canadian carriage followed the U.S. channel and ended in 2024. This makes the Canadian article best understood as a discontinued local distribution of the American network rather than a separate Canadian channel brand.
