Regarded as one of the league’s premier two-way forwards, he won six Selke Trophies and a Stanley Cup with Boston in 2011. He retired in July 2023 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2026.

Early life and junior hockey

Bergeron was born in L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, and developed into a highly regarded two-way centre before entering the NHL draft. He was selected by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

NHL career with Boston

Bergeron made his NHL debut in 2003 and spent his entire professional North American career with Boston. He became one of the franchise’s most important players, surpassing 1,000 career points and serving as team captain. He played all 1,294 of his NHL regular-season games with the Bruins, recording 427 goals and 613 assists for 1,040 points.

Defensive reputation and awards

Bergeron was widely recognized for faceoffs, defensive awareness, and all-around play. He won the Selke Trophy six times, the most in league history, and was considered one of hockey’s best two-way forwards.
