Early life and junior career
Forsberg was born in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, and developed in the Modo Hockey system. He became one of Sweden’s most highly regarded hockey prospects before moving to North America.
NHL career
Drafted sixth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1991, Forsberg became a star in the NHL with Quebec and especially Colorado. He was known for elite playmaking, two-way play and strong playoff performance. He won Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and 2001, and finished his NHL career with 708 regular-season games, 249 goals and 636 assists for 885 points.
International play
Forsberg was a major player for Sweden, helping the national team win Olympic gold in 1994 and 2006. He also won multiple World Championship medals, including golds.
